2M Update:

Language Arts: Wonderful Words - List 6 practice/abc order/sentences/spelling test.

  • DLR(Daily Language Review)
  • Mr. Seahorse - comprehension questions/Quiz
***No spelling words this week as it is a short week.***

Literacy centres: 
  • #1  - ABC books - students started to write sentences about themselves using different letters of the alphabet.
  • #2 - Listening to Reading - students used Bookflix on the I pads and listened/read a story.
Math: Counting with money - 1, 5 and 10 cents.
  • Ordinals ie/ 1st(first), 2nd(second) .....
Science: Water and living Things - carnation activity - students observed that living things need water. The carnations took up the colored water and turned the carnations blue/red.




                                                                                                                                                                    Social: Symbols of Canada/Learning that we are the centre of our world.
  • Canada Quiz Wednesday, Nov 28th - see study guide that went home. Return blue social duo-tangs on Wednesday.
Religion: Learning about St. Francis.
Health: Importance of listening. Read, 'Why Should I Listen?'

4M Update:

Language Arts: List 5 -number words practice/spelling test.

  • Eric Carle author study - Read Mister. Seahorse  - learning about authors, illustrators and fictional stories. - new vocabulary from the text(abc order)/learning about seahorses video.

List 6 spelling test - Friday, Nov 23rd.


List 6 - opposites

1.  same          5.  slow
2.  different    6.  fast

Math: even and odd numbers/sorting numbers
Science: Making Steam activity - observing states of matter - liquid to a gas(evaporation)and gas back to a liquid(condensation)

  • Disappearing water - Does water in an open container evaporate quicker/slower then in a closed container?
  • Drying sheets - effect of moving air and the effect of evaporation - outside verses inside.
Social:  Flag/symbols/song - read Why I love Canada.
Religion: Mustard Seed - video - students made bookmarks for themselves and their buddies using drawings/symbols that represented the meaning of the parable. Even something/someone small can make a difference.
Art:  Made art folders 
Health: Stress and how to deal - Sorting activity.
Computers: Students spend time every week on the Chromebooks - Raz kids and Zorbits

2M Update:

Language Arts: Calendar/Wonderful Words - practiced List 4 - copy out, ABC order, sentences

and spelling test.

  • Outrageous October scrapbook writing
  • Journal writing: Halloween
  • Remembrance Day brainstorming words/writing: Students worked hard on acrostic poems(See Picture)
  • In Flanders Field poem - read/rhyming patterns/discussion
  • Read 'A Poppy is to Remember'

List 5 spelling test Friday, Nov 16th.

List 5: Numbers

Math: Numbers Unit: Counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.
  • Finding the missing numbers in a pattern - using student made number lines and 100's chart.
Social: Learning about Canada
Science: Discovering Liquids review/quiz - they will go home Monday.  Please review/sign and return.
Health: Hand washing Lesson/video and worksheet - putting the steps in order.
Religion: Apostles Creed 
  • Read the Parable of the Mustard Seed - Learning how something small/someone can make a big difference.
***2M is reading prayer this week over the intercom.  Please practice if your child brought their prayer home.***

Computers: Raz kids and Zorbit - students should all have their passwords and can practice at home.

***This week math and social booklets came home.  When we finish a unit I will send it home and it does not need to be returned.***
Art: Tissue paper poppy art and Dove mixed media art.(See Picture)

2 Mah Update:

Language Arts: Finished our juicy,  'Descriptive Monster Writing'(See Picture)














Read Stellaluna - Looked at some juicy descriptions in the story.

***List 4 spelling test this Fri, November 9th***

List 4 - Weather
 1. rain           5. Land

***We had a special visit from little red riding hood on Halloween Day(AKA Ms. Briggs) who read us her favorite Halloween story through song.










Math: Counting forward and backwards using a number line. 
Science: Absorbency tests - exploring which materials absorb water quickly.

  • Juice or Popsicle's activity - exploring characteristics of juice both liquid and solid.  It was a very refreshing activity as students got to taste both liquid and solid forms of juice.  Yummy!
***Discovering Liquids quiz on Wednesday, Nov 7th. *** See study guide that went home.  Students should review their science notebooks and finish any incomplete work.

Religion: How I can help my different families?  Student wrote sentences about their home, classroom and parish families. 
  • Buddy visit:  Our grade 6 buddies came to visit us.  Grade 2 students read their 'Descriptive Monster' paragraphs and the grade 6's drew a monster based off of their descriptive sentences.  Good job grade 2's!!!












  • Grade 2's will be reading prayer over the intercom Nov 12-16th.  Please practice reading the prayers at home. They will go home this week and a note will be in the agenda if they are reading.
Art: Finished our haunted houses.  Welcome to Spookyville!!!
