2Mah Update:

Language Arts: List 24 practice/word work/spelling practice.

  • Started working on good copies of our pirate stories.
  • Marvelous May scrapbook page.
  • Literacy Centres
***I collected home reading on Wednesday.  There will be no more home reading for the rest of June.  Please return if you have not already.  Please continue to have your child read over the summer to keep up with their great progress.***

Math: Data Analysis - concrete and pictographs/tally charts/sorting using data to answer questions.
Science: Butterfly life cycle- /Important words/made a flip book - looking at other small crawling and flying animals.
Social: Looking at You - learning about Alberta/Cochrane
Health: Respect and good behavior.
Gym: Outdoor games - tag/soccer
Art: 3D butterfly

2Mah Update:

Language Arts:  List 22 and 23 word practice/spelling test.


  • Pirate paragraphs and comprehension questions.
  • Fort Calgary writing
  • Graphic organizer planning page for pirate story.
  • Pirate stories using word webs and outlines
***List 24 spelling test of Friday, June 14th.***(This will be the last spelling test.  We will do word work with the last few lists but no spelling tests.)

To celebrate the end of our Pirate Unit we will be having a Pirate Day on Monday, June 24th.  Students are welcome to dress up as a pirate as they will be reading their stories to the grade 1's and the kindergartens as well as participating in centres.  

Math: Measuring straight and round objects using nonstandard units like straws/paperclips and cube links. Learning about length, width and height.
  • Data Analysis - learning how to organize using a sorting rule.
Social: Finished looking at work/good/resources of Meteghan, Iqaluit and Saskatoon.
  • Looking at You 
Art: Finished Holy Spirit Art(Pen and Ink watercolour picture of school)
  • 3D butterfly art - part 1











Health: Volunteerism
Religion: Looking at saints and how to do mission work at home/school and church.
Gym: Learning different stunts/twists/rolls.

2Mah Update:

Just a friendly reminder about yearbooks.  A sticker in students agenda's went home last week as well.

Yearbook to Celebrate our 25th Anniversary: Soft cover book is available for $25 and hard over for $30. This is a yearbook for the 2018-2019 school year with class and individual photos of all current students and will recognize the 25th anniversary. Limited quantities of the yearbook are available – order soon to get your copies. Order deadline extended to June 14th .

Language Arts: Pirate Unit - read, 'A Day in the Life of a Pirate'

  • Students made a mind map with pirate vocabulary that they will use for their pirate stories.
  • Fort Calgary journal writing.

Math: Measurement - skip counting with the calendar/measuring/comparing and ordering lengths using nonstandard units.
Science: Hot and Cold assessment - They will go home Monday.  please review/sign and return.
  • Small crawling and Flying animals - students observed/recorded the final change in the butterfly life cycle in their journals.  We released the butterflies into the butterfly garden.














Social: Looking at Goods
  • Fort Calgary Field trip - learning about Alberta's past.









Health: Helmet and bike safety/Volunteering
Religion: Learning about the rosary.  Students took a rosary home.
  • Grade 2's are reading prayer this week - we will be practicing at school.

Gym: Tumbling/gymnastic movements
Art: Pen and ink watercolour picture of Holy Spirit

2Mah Update:

Language Arts: Finished Poetry Unit - students typed their favorite poem on Google docs and learned how to insert a picture.

  • Shared Reading: Students have been sharing their books every day.
  • Lobstering - students listened to a book on lobstering to complement our social unit and did some Journal writing.
  • Nouns - learning about general nouns and specific nouns(proper).

  • Ice Boy story - learned about the water cycle through a humorous story.
  • Caterpillar journals - students observed and wrote/draw about the next stage in the butterfly cycle - the chrysalis.





Gym: Skipping
Social; Learning about goods in the 3 Canadian Communities.
Art: Made lobster traps

Language Arts: List 19 spelling practice/wonderful words/spelling test.

***Students have started our shared reading activity.  Please make sure your child has their book to read to the class with the sheet completed.***










Math: Adding with and without regrouping practice
  • Subtracting tens from 2 digit numbers.
  • Math facts - adding 5's
  • Math game - connect 4 using subtraction/addition
Science: Hot and cold - reading a thermometer (above and below zero)and learning common temperatures. Students practiced reading temperature in warm and cold water.
  • Our butterfly larvae (Painted lady butterfly) arrived! - students have started observing them using a magnifying glass. They arrived as the size of a comma and have already tripled in size in 5 days.  Students will be observing and recording in their butterfly journal as they go through metamorphosis to a butterfly. This is to complement our Small Flying and Crawling creatures unit that will overlap as we finish Hot and Cold temperatures.


Social: Looking at Places quiz - please review/sign and return this week along with the blue duotangs if your child has not already.
Gym:  jump rope unit - working through different stations.
Art: See Earth Day art - students are working on something special for Mother's Day.  Please send in a small gift bag so they can bring it home safely on Friday.
